Travel - FAQs

FAQs:

Should players attend both tryouts? We strongly and highly recommend attending tryouts on both dates offered.  If a player would like to ‘play-up’ (in the next age group), you must indicate that when completing the registration and the player must attend both age group tryouts.  For example, if your players birth year is 2012 and would like to tryout for the 2011 team, he/she must attend both the 2012 AND 2011 tryout.

What is the commitment? All travel teams practice 2x’s per weekday and one practice on Saturdays.  Weekly practice times range from 4pm – 7pm in the Fall and 5pm – 8pm in the Spring and all practices are run by Soccer Alliance trainers.  Games are played on Sundays.  There are 5 home games and 5 away games during the season.  All HOME games are played at RVA Fields in Boonton Township.  Travel teams have the opportunity to attend a tournament in the Fall with the approval of the Travel Committee.  MLBTB is a member of the Morris County Youth Soccer Association.  All games are played within Morris County, with a few exceptions of travel outside of the area.

My child can’t make any of the tryout dates.  Will there be a special tryout for players who couldn’t make it? No.  The Travel Committee has gone to great lengths to coordinate, as best as possible, to avoid major conflicts on all 3 community (Mountain Lakes, Boonton Township and Boonton) calendars and other youth sports to ensure maximum participation.  Tryouts will only be rescheduled if there is a cancellation for field closure due to weather.

If my player does not make a travel team, what can he/she do? We don’t want the player to get discouraged.  We have revamped our recreation program where all age groups benefit from sessions conducted by our professional training partner, Soccer Alliance.  We encourage all players who don’t make a travel team to sign up for their age group in the recreation program so they can improve on their skills.

If my player does not make a travel team, can my tryout fee be refunded and/or applied to another program?  No. The fee for travel tryouts is non-refundable and not transferable.  For additional information, please refer to our Refund Policy.

What are the costs associated with playing on a travel team? If your child is offered a position on a travel team and accepts the position, the registration fee will be paid at that time.  This fee includes game and league fees, insurance, one tournament entry, professional trainers and game day coaching by the trainer for 5 games.  The fee does not include uniforms.  Uniforms are an additional cost.  The uniform kits consists of a home jersey, away jersey, one pair of shorts and one pair of socks.

Are there sibling discounts? No.  The registration fee for travel is a fixed fee.  The fee includes game and league fees, insurance, professionally run training sessions and professional trainer attendance at 5 games.  Any family experiencing a financial hardship can apply for a scholarship by emailing [email protected].  All scholarship decisions are handled by the MLBTB SC Board on a case-by-case situation.
